The Thin Green Line Foundation 10 Year Celebration

Forum I

ONE NIGHT ONLY: Jul 18th 2017 BUY TICKETS

For one night only, The Thin Green Line Foundation is bringing together authentic Australian musicians, and our loyal ambassadors, to celebrate the Foundation’s 10 year anniversary at the Forum Melbourne on Tuesday 18 July.

Musicians include:
Yirrmal, Witiyana Marika, Marty Nelson-Williams and Nicky Bomba.

Each artist will give a special performance dedicated to The Thin Green Line Foundation in celebration of our achievements over the last decade, and in honour of the Rangers we work so tirelessly to support around the world.

Yirrmal is the “Youngblood” of the next generation of Yolngu artists, setting an example of living in two worlds and balancing traditional and contemporary cultures. He is an inspiring songwriter and guitarist with a powerful voice, melding songlines and folk to sing about life and culture. He openly shares his identity, spirit and connection to the land and engages the hearts of those that are lucky enough to hear him. His gripping live performances are something every Australian should experience.

Witiyana Marika is a senior singer and ceremonial leader of the Yolngu community at Yirrkala, Northern Territory, and one of the most significant traditional singers in Australia today. As one of the founding members of the highly successful Yolngu band Yothu Yindi, Witiyana played a key role in ensuring the inclusion of traditional forms of expression within a popular music context. As a key part of The Thin Green Line Foundation’s launch 10 years ago, we welcome Witiyana’s return at this special celebration.

Singer songwriter Marty Nelson-Williams has been writing, recording, collaborating and touring nationally and internationally for more than 20 years. He has opened for the likes of Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys & Bonnie Raite, as well as local legends Things of Stone and Wood, Ed Kuepper, Paul Kelly, Archie Roach, Shane Howard and more. “A beautiful songwriter, musician and community activist, with a voice I love” Wally De Backer (Gotye).

Nicky Bomba has built a solid reputation in the music industry via many projects including writing and performing with his band Bomba, conducting the Melbourne Ska Orchestra and playing drums on John Butler’s award-winning Sunrise Over Sea and April Uprising. Nicky has travelled extensively, immersing himself in the music and culture of places such as Ethiopia, Morocco, Jamaica, Europe and his birthplace, Malta. Consequently, the music produced by this peace-lovin’ troubadour is a melting pot of fun, adventure and exotic sounds of the people and places he loves. Through his musical charity, Nicky has earned the Honorary International Ranger status with his work for The Thin Green Line Foundation.

We are so thrilled to have these artists contribute their unique talents to this celebration and, through their involvement, hope to inspire more people to help The Thin Green Line Foundation Protect Nature’s Protectors.
